A Rant About How You Spend Your Time

I got a bit upset with this one...

Let me just say it: if your calendar doesn’t reflect your priorities, you’re doing it wrong.

I’m not here to sugarcoat this.

Your time is your life, and if the things you care about most aren’t on your calendar, what are you even doing?

We all say we have our priorities straight—“Oh, my family comes first,” or “My health is super important to me.”

Really?

Then why are your evenings filled with pointless scrolling or yet another meeting that could’ve been an email?

If you don’t make time for what matters, it doesn’t matter.

Period.

Family Time Isn’t “Whenever” Time

Let’s talk about family for a second.

If you’re not setting aside time for your loved ones, you’re sending a message, whether you realize it or not: “I care, but not enough to prioritize you.”

Harsh? Maybe, but it’s the truth.

Family moments (dinners, walks, conversations) don’t happen by magic. They happen because you make them happen. Put it on your calendar.

Seriously.

Friendships Require Effort

And what about friends?

You can’t just say, “We’ll catch up when things slow down.”

Spoiler: life doesn’t slow down.

Friendships need effort. Texting is fine, but it’s not the same as sitting down and talking face-to-face. If your friends are important, prove it. Schedule the coffee, the call, the lunch.

Otherwise, don’t be surprised when the relationship starts to fade.

Health: Non-Negotiable

Now, let’s get real about health. It’s wild how many people treat it like an afterthought. “Oh, I’ll work out when I have time,” or “I’ll eat better… someday.”

No.

Stop that.

Your body is your foundation. If you’re not taking care of it, everything else will crumble eventually. Block out time for exercise, meal prep, or even just going outside.

And don’t feel guilty about it—it’s not selfish; it’s necessary.

Hobbies Aren’t “Extra”

Let’s not forget hobbies. How many of us say, “I miss [insert thing you love], but I’m just so busy.” Guess what? You’re always going to be busy.

Hobbies aren’t a waste of time—they’re what make life fun.

If you’re not carving out time for the things that light you up, what’s the point?

Work Needs Boundaries

And yes, work is important, but it can’t take over everything. If you’re letting work spill into every corner of your life, that’s on you.

Stop saying yes to every meeting and every task.

Protect your non-work time like it’s sacred.

Because it is.

Balance Is the Goal

Look, I’m not saying it’s easy. Some weeks, I screw it up too.

But here’s the thing: if you’re not actively planning your time, someone else will.

And I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be in charge of what matters in my life.

Take a hard look at your calendar.

Does it match the life you say you want?

If not, fix it.

Your time is too precious to waste on things that don’t matter.

Make the things you care about a priority—by giving them your time.

End of rant.
